Webster First Sponsors Veterans Charity Golf Tournament
September 17, 2022

For the eighth year in a row, Webster First is once again a proud sponsor of the charity golf tournament, Side by Side, which donates to organizations that help veterans in need. At Side by Side, sponsors have the opportunity to play alongside U.S. military veterans in a golf tournament held at Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton, Massachusetts.
Side by Side partners with PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Reach New England, whose goal is to provide PGA professionals with the tools they need to execute programs such as this. They are passionate about helping military veterans and their families while also promoting golf. This year, Side by Side is taking place on Monday, September 19, 2022. According to their website:
The Side by Side Committee was formed in 2014 by a group of local business leaders interested in supporting veterans through an annual charity golf tournament. Through the generosity of the Magill family of Pleasant Valley Country Club and the many sponsors and participants, the tournament has raised over $100,000 each year where profits go directly to supporting our local veterans and other 501(c)(3) organizations.

Side by Side’s two founders, Luke Semmelrock and Bill McGuirk, developed the organization from an idea that Luke and his wife, Mary Jo Hurley, thought up. Since then, many other local business leaders have joined the Committee, and it has transformed into an annual golf tournament that has seen success for the past eight years. Two of the local business leaders involved in the development of this event are our very own CEO, Michael Lussier and his assistant, Denise Dubois.
Although Side by Side is not a Webster First organization, we do our part to support by becoming a sponsor alongside other institutions such as Hanscom Credit Union, PenFed Credit Union, Lundgren Honda of Auburn, and Pleasant Valley Country Club just to name a few. Proceeds from this year’s event are being donated to a group of non-profit organizations devoted to helping U.S. veterans. Some of those organizations are:
- Habitat for Humanity – Veterans Build Initiative
- Veterans Inc.
- Travis Mills Foundation
- NEADS World Class Service Dogs
- PGA Reach New England

Webster First is always proud to do what we can to support our veterans in need. Just two days before Side by Side on September 17, the credit union is sponsoring another event, the Adams Fall Run motorcycle ride which benefits local chapters of American Legion Riders.
