Direct Deposit for Social Security

The process for setting up direct deposit for Social Security will depend upon whether you are enrolling for the first time or simply switching your deposit account information.

First Time Social Security Enrollment

You may apply for benefits for yourself or a spouse on the U.S. government's official Social Security website, if you:

  • are at least 61 years and 9 months old;
  • are NOT currently receiving benefits on your own Social Security record;

The website offers a list of information you will need to have handy in order to complete the application process. You will also find a retirement calculator that helps to estimate what your benefits will be.

You may also apply by phone at (800) 772-1213 from 7am - 7pm Monday through Friday or in person at your local Social Security office (call first to make an appointment.)
